Colorism is the discrimination of an individual based on their skin complexion, and usually occurs within ethnic or racial groups. This is a global issue that effects many cultures and communities throughout the world. More specifically, Colorism has had a harmful effect on the Black community as a whole. My research poster reports on the history of the issue , as well as the effects it has on men and women when it comes to self esteem and beauty standards. Additionally, the poster reflects upon the more general effects, including the psychological effects it has on the community. My research found that Colorism can lead to feelings of helplessness, low self-esteem, and psychological distress. My research poster aims to not only to bring awareness, but to educate people on the issue so that we as a society can dismantle the issue.
