The bulk of Norse mythology is centered around the god Thor and his travels throughout its Nine Realms. Our poster presentation will break down the significant aspects of each of the realms and what their defining characteristics are with respect to the rest in order to make the case that Norse Mythology is one of the richest of Western mythologies in terms of description and geographical detail. Unlike other cultures who create their cosmology as a way of explaining their current realities, the Norse use their cosmology as the background and dramatic situation of their cultural myths. Further, each realm has its own geographical features, flora, and fauna, which will be outlined and represented as well. By tracking the travels of Thor, the Norse’s most well-traveled god, we begin to see a well-developed and robust cosmology that outshines many earlier culture’s myths.
