Synergistic Learning Experience for Honors Students: On Mathematics and the Arts

A mathematician (and an art admirer) invites honors students to explore the connections between mathematics and the arts within a research workshop-style class. This class provides a synergistic experience and promotes mathematics as a way of thinking, through a (re)discovery of abstract structures built from ideas, relations, patterns, dimensions.

While reviewing some particularly clever and beautiful examples of students’ work, it is evident that the students recognize deep mathematical aspects found in artistic work, which inspire both a different point of view on art, and a different point of view on math.
